Leagues finished

All bowling leagues are now finished for the year. My DH had his break up and prize presentation on last Friday night while the girls had their presentation at the same centre this morning.

My DH joined an adult’s league to bowl on Friday nights where the kids bowl on Saturday mornings. He bowled in a triple’s league from 7pm.  At the end of the season his team came 10th/17 teams.  Their team came 3rd for high game with HCP. This league had a couple of top bowlers who bowl one or more 200 on most weeks.  But he can 2nd for high series scratch for males.

The girls joined a teens league to bowl three games in a triple's team on Saturday mornings.  Like other leagues they have two seasons starting from late January and July.  Both seasons have prize presentations at the centre.  But in late November, all junior leagues had their early break up celebrations at Whitewater World and Dreamworld with their families.

Today the girls managed to come home with afew winnings for both team and individual placings.  Their team came 6th/10 teams.  Also the team came 2nd for high game with HCP, 3rd for high pinfall with HCP and 3rd for high series scratch.

Rachel didn't win any individual placings but Monique was lucky to come 2nd for high pinfall scratch, 2nd for high game with HCP and 1st for high series with HCP.

The girls won't resume a new season until school resumes next year.  But Rachel decided to go back to a Friday league as she doesn't wish to bowl early on Saturday mornings right now.  Both myself and my DH resume back into our own leagues in the New Year.

Need a break

My bowling leagues have now finished for the year.  I have a six week break for both leagues and they will resume back in January 2012.

Already reported on how we went for Sunday night league last weekend.  Wednesday's league doesn't have an end of the year celebrations as it was only a social play each week.  I basically joined to meet new people and have a practice to try improve each week.  Not sure about practicing really worked because some weeks on Sunday night I couldn't barely
bowled average.

Frank played in an adults league on Friday nights for most of the year.  He finished his competition of play on Friday night.  His fun night and prize presentation will happened this week.  I won't be there to see the prizes rewarded as I have another commitment to attend to that night.

The girls have only one more week of competition to play then in the following week they will have their fun games and prize presentation.  I haven't checked to see how they went but I am only guessing they are about half way down the standing sheet.

The girls had their own bowling gear purchased at the beginning of the season.  Mainly because they entered tournaments throughout the year.  I should think about getting myself my own gear for next season.

Our break up party

After our 46 week league playing from early January to mid November, we had our break up party for our Sunday night league on Saturday night.  This league has been going for around three decades now and each year they host a fun filled break up party at a function room, paid for by our social fees and raffles during the year.

We consumed a three course meal at Salisbury Bowls Club and had light entertainment provided from two ex-members of Wickety Wak until 11pm.  I can't remember their names but one of the guys plays the keyboard and can sing like Kermit, the Frog.  Apparently we got these guys because a couple of bowling members are close friends of theirs.

The prize presentation and raffle draws happened after dinner.  For prize presentation we came 8th/12 teams. Also I received cash for coming first for high series with handicap.  And Monique received a trophy as the most improved average which blown me away by surprise. I can't remember what was her average for the start of our play earlier in the year but by the end of the season her average was very similar to mine.  Around the high 130's mark!!  Our highest games we bowled in this league were 199 (me) and 197 (Monique).

At the time of our prize presentation each player was presented with a Christmas hamper as well.  Both Monique and I came home with biscuits, sweets and savoury items (which a couple were used in the girl's lunches today).

Earlier I mentioned about raffles.  During the league season we had fortnightly raffles to win cash but on special occassions like Mother's Day and Father's Day we would have prizes instead of cash.  The more raffles you purchased the more chances your name will be entered into the draw at the end of the year break up for free.  Majority of the league players purchased raffle tickets throughout the year so most of us won at least a couple of items on the night.  I came home with two packs of party food items and a meat tray with a variety of chicken pieces and a whole chook which I plan to bake in the oven today.  Yes!  I know.....I am keen to cook on a hot day.

But Monique did better then me! She came home with a shoe rack and a solar powered table light.  We thought it was so funny when she got a shoe rack because she only mentioned about one in the car on the way to the party.

Our updates

Two weeks have past since I last made a bowling report. Only because I haven't really bowl well enough to bother making a report.

My Wednesday's social game and the girls will still play in their league until school finishes in two weeks time but Sunday night was our last night of play for my league and what a night we had.  Besides having fun with our team mates, we managed to win all the points.  Last night I had to check online to see where we stand.  It turns out we moved up three places after one night. Is that good or what??

On this Saturday night we will have our prize presentation and break up party at a bowls club, south of Brisbane. It's about a 20 minute drive from my home address. I will let you know after the party on how we went with prize presentation, Secret Santa and extras (if any from raffles).  Can't really have a real late night because I will be a waterpark during the day on Sunday for the kid's early break up party for their junior league.

Monique bowled in her final TQI tournament in Toowoomba on Sunday.  I didn't go to support her play as I was away for the weekend.  Her Dad went with her and reported she didn't bowl well over four games during the day. So I was amazed she bowled well on Sunday night.

Season ending soon

A week has past since I last bowled.  On Sunday night we didn't play because I was out at John Farnham's concert having a time of my life. I had a look online to see this week's results and it turns out we only won one of the games.  I guess it happened in the second game because we bowled better then.  We have only two weeks to go and this league will be finished for the year.  We will then have a six week break and resume back in mid January.

I didn't go to play socially last week because of my car issue but today I had my social games with only one person because the other social members were either sick or had some other commitment on.  I don't know why I even bothered playing because I bowled lousy and didn't even win one point. This social league will end in the same week as school finishes for the year in December.  It was my first year to have a social play with these four ladies and I have form a good bond of friendship with them.  Also they have a good sense of humour. Even if I had a bad morning at home, I always come home happier after I have socially bowled with them.

We all had dinner together for the first time on Sunday night before we went in to see the concert. It just happened they booked the same concert on the same night afew months ago too.  Today I show the ladies what I got from the concert shop as I didn't see them after the concert performance.  They sitted at the balony below us.  They are happy to have me back next year when the person at the reception asked if we all were coming back to play next year.  I decided to give another year of social play as I don't have anything new on the agenda.

I will miss my bowling mates during the six week break but at the same time it will be nice to have a break after playing two seasons straight. I didn't have a break from the sport over last summer because I was involved in a phantom league.  A phantom league is where you bowl at anytime of the week with a mysterious player. You don't know who the player you bowled against as they didn't play the same time as you.  This league would suit shift workers because their hours changed all the time and they wouldn't be able to play in a standard league. The only way you know how you progress is to check the standing sheet online or at the centre you played at each week.  It was a 12 week league involving afew regional centres in SE QLD.  We all bowled four games per week. For the first couple of weeks it was quite tiring to bowl four games in one hour but after time my body got used to it. During the summer school holidays I had the kids bowling socially besides me while I bowled my phantom league.

By the time this mini league ended I came 72nd out of 183 players. The highest game I bowled from that league was a 209 game.   I haven't bowled anymore 200 games since but I had a couple of close calls of a 200 game in both leagues.

Prebowling

Normally at this time I would be at bowling to have my two social games with friends but today I can't leave my car unattended because of what happened this morning.  To find out what happened you will have to simply read it under our family lifestyle blog.

But yesterday we prebowled because we won't be there on Sunday night to play as I have another event to attend to.  I don't know why I bothered to prebowled as they weren't really good games but my team mate did quite well for the first two games so could have a slim chance of winning afew points on Sunday night against an all males team who bowls excellent games on most weeks when they do show up.

No tournaments

It was nice to have a break from bowling tournaments over the weekend.  Only one of my children bowled in their teen league on Saturday AM. She bowled all her games over average but it wasn't enough to win all the points after three games plus series.  They only lost the series by one pin.

Last night we had our league to play which we managed to bowled most games over average and win most of the points too against one of the top ladder teams.  They had only one player attended as the other player prebowled weeks ago as he is still recovering from day surgery he had done about a month ago now. This absent bowler intends to bowl alot of 200 games but not the last night's prebowl games he didn't. We only lost in the third game because of my lousy under average game.  But my second game I done very well and looks like I am the SOTW rewarder as I have checked the standing sheet online this morning.  Also I noticed we have moved up the ladder again.  Hope we still stay up here for the next three weeks.  We don't wish to be in last place for a horse's ass trophy.

Where we are at current placing, the team below us is only one point difference.  And guess what?  We are playing against them next week.  But we have to prebowl this week as we won't be there next Sunday. I will be in Brisbane to see John Farnham in concert.  Last night I heard one of the other bowlers is seeing Cold Chiesel in concert on Wednesday night.

Tournament 2

We had another weekend at bowling as another tournament was played this morning. The girls entered into a 7 No Tap tournament. For bowlers who don't know this tournament, I will simply explain the one playing rule:  when a player bowls either a 7, 8 or 9 for the first roll at each frame, it's an automatic strike. It's quite easy for any good bowler to roll a 300 game (the highest game anyone can bowl scratch) in this format. The adults had this casual tournament two weeks ago but I heard the juniors did better with this one then the adults. There were five boys and one girl who bowled the 300 game today.  Only one adult did this 300 game two weeks ago.

The juniors had a four man team and bowled three games.  It was about two hours used to bowl all their games.  Also it was very quick to get the final results as everyone added up the total games to get their series.  It was the top four players each of males and females with high series scratch wins the tournament. All the boys who bowled the 300 game won and the only female with her 300 game came 1st. Guess who that was??  My daughter!! I was so proud of her.  She did wish her 300 game was the real deal.  We showed everyone in my league tonight in hoping to tricking them it was the real game but they were too good for us and knew it was a no tap tournament.

Speaking of my league we bowled very well tonight and managed to win all the points against the number one team.  We have only another month of this season left and we have to keep up with the points to avoid going back down the chart again.  Because there is so many good bowlers in the league this year I am not expecting to take much of any individual placings this year.

Tournament 1

It has been two weeks since I last reported about bowling.  Over the weekend we had all leagues played as normal and one tournament to be played as well.   Unfortunately not many points were won in our leagues but we had a great outcome in the tournament.

On Sunday it was the under 21's tournament played at our team's home centre.  My youngest child bowled four games as well as there was one player absent.  Generally it is quite fast to bowl four games in a three man team.  It's the waiting around afterwards for the final results takes the extra time of being there.  But this time it was worth the wait as my eldest girl's team came 2nd.  They were the only team from their home centre who won a medal each.  All her games were over average but it wasn't high enough to receive an extra medal for individual placing again.

On Sunday night we stayed around at the bowling alley abit longer after the match to socialize with a small group of bowlers and had dinner there. It was interesting to find out the monthly tournament my daughter has played this year has broken some rules.  I am glad we won't be back there to play next year, well not for the centre she has been respresenting for.  Not sure if she should return to the same centre to bowl in any junior leagues because I am not happy on the way their junior coach has been handling things this year.

Under tournament rules, no prebowlers are supposely to take place and there has been two bowlers who have prebowled before the weekend of that match.  When I first heard about the prebowl incident I went off my rocker at our kid's coach if that person wins a medal, I will say something about it.  Apparently she did win an individual medal but I didn't do anything because I was happy to see my daughter came home with two medals that month.  This weekend another prebowler did it again but this time the team he supposely represented didn't win or this kid didn't received any medals for high games.  I didn't see it but my daughter said she overhead their coach having ago at the main organiser over it.

Another thing that taken place yesterday was some social bowlers show up and played beside a tournament team. I was told last night social bowlers aren't suppose to be on the lanes until the tournament is finished.

Under any league or tournament rule, you must give way to all players on the either side of you. If they approach the lane to bowl first, you must give away to them.  It means you wait until they walk back down the playing area.  This rule is more for safety because we all had past experience of missed judgement when to release the bowl to roll abit too early.  If you release the bowl from your fingers too early, the bowl will go backwards instead of the lanes in front of you.  If you approach too close to the bowler who is playing, getting hit by a bowling ball can be quite painful.

All parents were given a survey to fill out but our kid's coach told us don't bother because we won't be there next year.  Really I should written something down about the rules because I feel the organiser should know what she did wrong.  I will contact the main company (where you pay the bowling membership from) and ask about their terms and conditions with tournaments because I feel this is all wrong.

Leagues closing soon

Been two weeks since I last made a bowling report.  Probably didn't want to say much either because we haven't really been winning many points during league.

Depending on what league bowlers are in, there is only 5-10 weeks of play left to end the season.  There will be a 4-6 week break and all leagues will resume by the time school resumes in late January 2012.

My Sunday night league finishes up in five weeks time.  In the following week we will have our night out at a bowls club in a suburb, south of Brisbane.  Two ex-members of Wickety Wak will be this club performing for us in the function area.  Our night will involved a three course meal, entertainment and presentation of bowler's rewards (teams and individual placings), Secret Santa and raffle draws.  The night generally starts around 6pm and finishes up by 11pm.  Don't think we will be there that late this year because we have a junior party to attend to the next day.

This league have been going to the bowls club for their end of year break ups for afew years I assume but I did hear the league has been going for about three decades.  I started this league in the early 21st century but I intend to come and go into different leagues.  But this time I haven't!  I have been there for three years straight now as I made some great friends. There is a couple of friends I have grown close to and intend to see each other at times outside of league hours.  It will be nice to have a good break as I have bowled all summer. But at the same time I will miss my friends for six weeks when we have a break from bowling until mid January.

Found out today all junior leagues will come to a close when school finishes up in December.  It means the girls only have another ten weeks of play left then they will have their prize presentation at the centre in the following week.  Their break up party is generally held in late November but this year it hasn't been announced as yet on where the party event will be held at.  Junior leagues will resume when the new school year resumes in late January 2012.

Bad results

After a week's break Monique and I were back on Sunday night to play league. Well..it isn't really worth typing on how we went as it wasn't the best night to win any points but at least it was nice to socialize with bowlers after the match.

The girls had their league as normal on Saturday morning. Either they won any points either! I think it is because they mucked around too much.

But I did find out all the results from the casual tournament we played on Father's Day. It seems Rachel's team didn't do well but Monique and I did abit better but not enough to be in the top twenty.

Now being school holidays, bowling leagues will be played as normal. The only time I don't bowl is on Wednesdays. But we will be off to have a social bowl with some friends tomorrow at the same centre where Monique played last weekend for her serious tournament.

7th Ken Mills Kup

What a weekend! I am still in bowling mode as both Monique and I were away for most of the weekend at a bowling centre in Brisbane for a serious tournament. There were around 120 juniors from various centres in Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Toowoomba and the Gold Coast to bowl 18 games over two days. There were ten teams of girls and ten teams of boys playing on 20 lanes at Kedron (which I heard a rumour that centre might be closing down in the future). Normally this tournament is played at a centre in Ipswich but the centre has closed down after the floods hit in January 2011.

Check in started from 6:30am each day. By the time we had daily annoucements and warms up it was around 7:30am when the game one started. On Saturday we left around 6pm. And it was quite an early night for us as we were up at 5am to get ready and leave before 6am. It was about a 40 minute drive to Brisbane. Sunday night ended at 8pm as we had a prize presentation too.

As for the scoring system it was one point each to win scratch and HCP for head to head. It means each bowler in turn plays against the other person on the same line of play on the other lane. And two points for the team to win each game scratch and HCP.

I heard there were over 140 two hundred games announced over the weekend. The highest game bowled was 278 and that was done by a girl from a different centre. Monie's highest game was 209.

After each game completed, they had to change lanes. Because it was a five man team (some centres had an extra player or two so others can have a break but it didn't work out for Monie's centre)it did take about 50 minutes to complete each game. But it would be more likely be an hour by the time the teams changed lanes and start the next game.

Last night after the juniors played, they had a mini disco bowling involving them, their coach and managers had a fun play of two games while waiting for the final results for 90 minutes.

The presentation lasted for 45 minutes. It began as individual and teams placings for high games and series, scratch and handicap. Then they had the team placings of girls and boys from different centres. The girls team came 3rd and they won $40 cash each. And lastly the Cup was represented to the winning centre! Guess who? The centre Monie played for. The juniors came home with a small trophy each and the cup goes to the centre.

This tournament is an annual event and intends to be played around this time each year and Monie did say she would like to do it again.

Tournament coming

Has been a busy week playing sport. Besides my leagues Monique had to prebowl on Monday afteroon and yesterday because she will have a busy weekend bowling into a big tournament. Further details has been posted in my normal family blog. I accidently added there instead of here.

More bowling

We had another busy weekend with bowling. Saturday mornings and Sunday nights were played as normal. We all managed to win either all or most of the points. Monique received another SOTW reward. I have lost count on how many rewards she's got now.

As I said in the previous post, today is Father's Day and we did bowl into that Scotch Tournament. The whole centre was full of junior and their parent bowling together (40 teams) but only the top nine got a prize. My husband bowled with my youngest child while I bowled with my eldest girl. Unfortunately none of us teams were situated into the top nine to win anything. The centre even had a Father's Day raffle but no luck there either!

This week a couple of prebowls got to be done as Monique will be involved into the big tournmanet to be played in Brisbane. Over the upcoming weekend she's got to bowl 18 games. Wish her luck!

No real updates

It sure has been quiet here for the past two weekends as no tournaments had taken place. The next one will happen on Father's Day. It's another Scotch Doubles but this time a junior and an adult must play together in a team. Inspite I don't bowl in a league at this centre, they were quite happy to let me bowl with my daughter that day. But it will be interesting to see how we all go in our little teams of parent and child.

Not really much to report about my league as I didn't bowl well last week. But I was surprise to go home with another SOTW reward. Monique got one on last Saturday. I wasn't there to watch the girls bowl this morning but I did hear Monique bowled very well. Could she receive another SOTW next week?

Another good weekend

Another weekend of bowling is now over and what a good weekend it was too. No clue about Friday nights when Frank bowls because he barely says much about his games afterwards but I do know more about my kid's performances because I am the one who intends to be there more to support them each week.

Rachel didn't bowl on Saturday morning because she was too tired after being at her school's disco on the night before. But her big sister still went and managed to bowl good. As time goes she is getting better and intends to bowl over average on most weeks. She came home with a star of the week reward too!

Also we found out the final results from last Sunday's tournament too. You might of remembered last weekend, I said their computer crashed. I am not sure if that is true because I did noticed the computers at the lane areas was still working. You would think if the control's computer crashed, wouldn't all computers be done?? I think the centre's excuse was the trophies weren't at the centre to be presented. If that was true, why lie about it to the parents and kids? Anyway to cut the long story short, Rachel's team came 8th/16 teams and Monie's team came 3rd.

This morning Monie had her tournament to play at Mt Gravatt Lanes. What a good girl with her performance!! All her games were over average. Even her team mates did well and they won....meaning they came 1st!!! Also Monie received an extra medal for high series with HCP. This means she won two tournaments in a row at an AMF centre. It just shows she is capable to bowl good at any centre.

Just when I thought Monie was all bowled out after today, she managed to bowl good again at tonight's league. I bowled quite good too! I almost bowled a 200 game but just missed out by one lousy pin. Oh yeah! We won all the points against one of the top position teams.

Bowling weekend

This weekend was quite a busy weekend with me practically living at the bowling alley again. I visited one bowling alley twice to witness my girls played in their normal league yesterday and there again this morning for both of them to play in their incentre tournament known as Battle of the Leagues. There were sixteen teams from other Junior leagues, competing with each other. It was a four man team of both sex genders to bowl three games each. Most of the teams were from teenage leagues which I feel its unfair for the junior players who only started to bowl in leagues this year. I don't understand why some parents allow their child to play three games in a tournament when they only bowl a game per week under league conditions. These poor little buggers must of been so exhausted after they finished bowling today. Unfortunately no-one was told who won because the centre's computer crashed. But I feel confident my girl's team will win as they bowled good.

While the girls played in their tournament, the junior co-ordinator of the junior leagues came around the lanes and asked if Monique was interested to bowl into a real serious tournament in September. Inspite the cost and who she plays for, I am not sure if she will be prepared to bowl 18 games in one weekend if she wishes to try it. This tournament will be played in Brisbane.

Tonight I had my league to play with Monique. Unfortuately after bowling in a tournament today she wasn't really in the mood to play tonight but I did quite well but not enough to win all the points. We played against one of the top position teams and the male who plays in that team managed to bowl well over average games.

Next time I play league is on this Wednesday. It will be interesting to see how I go. I did okay last week and managed to win all the points.

Sports Day

Being a large populated high school, their sports day intends to be on over three days this year. Only day one was a full on day but the other two days were shorter in hours.

Monique had day two of sports day today. The school had their track events for two hours. I didn't go and watch this time as I copped enough sunshine last week as I spent the whole school day there, watching their field events.

She compete in the 100m and 200m heats and finals and managed to win a riboon. From what I have observed over the years, she seems to be better athlete in longer distances. She came 4th in the 100m and 1st in 200m. Also she ran in the 400m for the firs time and managed to come 2nd. She said she couldn't be bothered more running in the 800m as she was exhausted after the 400m event.

The school still has high jump and relays to do which I heard it will happen on this Friday. Wish her luck!

Sports Day

Today was the first time to be at the high school to watch Monique compete in her field events for their sports day. I am so proud of her for coming home with two ribbons. She compete in all events and here are her results.

Long Jump, 3.26m, came 2nd
Triple Jump (hop, step and jump once you hit the board), 4.70m, came 3rd. I can understand why primary schools don't do this one as it is so challenging. I am so proud that Monique was one of the lucky one who could do it correctly.
Javelin, 8.30m and Discus, 10.04m. It was her first time doing both Javelin and Discus.
Shotput, 4.78m

Next week the school will have day two of their sports day where all students will be competing in the track events and high jump. Wish Monique luck as she will be competing in all of them.

Bowling weekend

This weekend I was practically living at the bowling alley as there were two leagues and one tournament played at three centres. It seems Monique was on a good roll as most of her ten games were bowled over average.

Today she was at Capalaba to bowl in her tournament for the fifth time with other players under 21. There were five teams from Logan Lanes that played against Capalaba, Mt Gravatt and Toowoomba. Three of the Logan Lanes won 1st to 3rd placings from today's match. Monique's team was one of them. They came 2nd! Also she received an extra medal for a high game scratch (196). She was so proud to show her medals off at bowling tonight. Everyone was very happy for her!!

Prize presentation

Today was a great day in bowling and I am proud of my daughters. Besides Rachel bowling an excellent game over average, the girls had their junior bowling presentation from season one that ended in June.

The girls did very well and managed to come home with more then they can bargain. Their team came 4th/9 teams. Monique received the cash while Rachel decided to have the trophy. To me it's just another dust collector to add in my cabinet. For Rachel, she's just a young girl who loves to receive something special for her hard work in sport. She said she plans on taking it to school for show 'n' tell.

The rumour went around saying Monique taken most of the winning prize fund for individual placings. Well......she did come home with some cash for coming 1st for high game scratch, high series scratch and highest pinfall for the season. Also she was rewarded for the most person to bowl over average games.

Rachel did okay too but her individual placings. She came 2nd and 3rd for high series and pinfall with HCP. Also she was rewarded as the most consistent person who bowls average on most weeks.

The next time they will have their prize presentation will occur when summer holidays start in December. Also they will have a break up party celebrations elsewhere.

Great bowling

Today I was back to Wednesday's social league after a two week break. It was nice to catch up with the ladies and bowl for fun. The centre was very busy. Half the centre had some vacation care kids in from a private school. This was when I realised not all kids were back at school this week.

Surprisely I managed to bowl all games over average and won all the points for once. I wouldn't be surprised if I am the SOTW next week. I am not sure where I am on the standing sheet as I haven't look online in a while.

Speaking of team placements, I think my girls will have their season one presentation on this weekend. Season two started last weekend!

Weekend Bowling

After I missed two weeks of play, it was back to playing league tonight. Because we had a vacant team to play against, tonight's match was the one to really work on our averages to win. Unfortunately I only bowl one game over average but I am thankful Monique saved us by bowling all her games over average. We won all the points!!!!! YIPPEEEEEEEEE!!

What a surprise for Monique! She came home with her first star of the week reward from AMF bowling. In my absence of last week, Frank subbed for me and I heard Monique bowled very well last week.

Season one of junior league is now over. It went straight into season two this weekend. The girls bowled okay but lost on Saturday morning. After the girls had a vacant player all season one, they now have a new team member joined their team on the weekend too. A teenage male at around 15 years old. Apparently his Nanna told me he only been bowling for about five years.

Next time I play league is on this Wednesday when five of us return for a social match. This league doesn't play on any school holidays.

State of Origin

For sometime Frank and I used to followed rugby league regularly on TV or live matches in Brisbane. Brisbane Bronocs and Canberra Raiders were my favourite teams until Willie Carne (QLD player) and Laurie Daley (ACT player) retired.

But I still followed State of Origin where QLD and NSW play three games each year. I haven't been to any live games as yet but I am hoping to take my daughter to one next year as she enjoys watching footy now.

Tonight was the third game for 2011. The match was played at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. QLD did it again and won.....34-24!! Also it was the last time Darren Lockyer played as he will be retiring the football season after this year. He had 36 appearances of State of Origin.

No bowling!!

Because I have been sick this weekend, I have missed going to bowling.  Frank taken the girls to bowling in their league yesterday morning but I didn't hear (or more likely I don't remember what they said) how they went...if they won or not!! Frank will sub for me tonight as I don't have the strength to play any sports yet.  I hope we will win more points again!!

The bowling tournaments

Summary of 2011 leagues:  I bowl in two leagues at Mt Gravatt Lanes, Frank bowls in a team with two ladies on Friday nights at Logan Lanes, my daughters play in a teens league on Saturday mornings at the same centre.  And Monique bowls with me in a league on Sunday nights.

We had a busy month playing our favourite sport.  Besides bowling in leagues as normal, two members in this family had two tournaments to be played.

Monique started to enter tournaments this year as well.  She generally plays in one once a month at different centres.  She did very well with her first one in February and came home with two trophies.  Her highest game she bowled that day was a 209 game.

Earlier this month both Frank and Monique entered a tournament at Logan Lanes called the Scotch Tournament.  It is a double team where both bowlers finish off the other player's frame if the first player of that team didn't get a strike.  There were about 21 teams playing that morning which Rachel and I went along and watched them played.  Frank and Monique came 11th.

On the first weekend of the school holidays we had an overnighter in Toowoomba.  Consider it is now winter in Australia, up there wasn't as cold as I first predicted. Earlier in the week their overnighter temperature was around zero but when we were up there it was around eight degrees overnight. Thank goodness!!

Anyway the main reason why we were up there is because the girls played in an tournament with other kids under 21 who came from other centres in Toowoomba, Logan and Mt Gravatt.  Out of 29 players Monique came 16th.

It was Rachel's first time to enter this kind of tournament.  The poor girl was pretty tired after playing four games but she said she enjoyed it.  She wants to play again next month! I will have to see what their coach says first.
